Christmas is almost upon us and what could be nicer than setting off to visit Santa in Lapland. We have the ideal disabled accessible Christmas holiday cabin for you to stay in Blitzen, Finland.
This accessible cabin is located in a picturesque woodland setting. The back of the cabin looks straight into the forest and there is access at the rear directly to the cross-country ski tracks. The supermarket and most of the restaurants are about 1km from the cabin and all the arranged company trips about 500 meters away. For all pre-arranged trips you can be collected directly from the cabin.
The village of Äkäslompolo is a traditional resort nestled in stunning woodland surrounded by the seven fells of Ylläs,
Ylläs Aurora and Twilight
The street lights are turned off in Ylläs every evening at around 10p.m, starting on the 3rd of November 2016 until the middle of February 2017. This makes it easier to see the amazing Northern Lights. Along with Northern Lights, the stars, moon and snow illuminate the nights.
The Ylläs fell is 718m and boasts the longest downhill run in Finland. There are 69 runs of which 28 are flood lit. The lifts are T-bar and button pulls on the lower slopes, with a chair lift on the Äkäslompolo side and a gondola on the Ylläsjärvi side.
Disabled assisted skiing equipment is also available if you don't already have your own equipment.
The centre of the village is about 800m from the cabin. Here you will find a handful of restaurants/bars, supermarket, pharmacy, an art gallery, souvenir shops, sports shops, doctor's surgery and a post office.
Trips such as visiting Santa, husky rides, snowmobile safari's, visits to the reindeer farms and sleigh rides can all be arranged directly from the cabin.
In the summer and autumn time there are some walking tracks that are suitable for wheelchair access.
Its a wonderful way to spend your pre christmas time.
