Disabled access accommodation Isle of Man TT Races thanks to JDF

Chequered Flag in Sight for the Joey Dunlop Foundation

The Joey Dunlop Foundation (Isle of Man Registered Charity) has spent many years looking to fulfil the Foundation’s aim of providing first class and much needed disabled holiday accommodation in the Isle of Man. To date, over £600,000 has been raised thanks to the tireless efforts of the Foundation’s many volunteer fundraisers and the financial commitment of loyal supporters and friends who have backed the Foundation over the last 9 years. Many obstacles have had to be overcome and following lengthy discussions with various departments of the Isle of Man Government, the Foundation is extremely pleased to announce the acquisition of Braddan Bridge House pictured below.

Braddan Bridge House

In July 2009 we received planning approval and conversion work is to commence in Autumn 2009.

This new venture has many benefits with the main ones being:

• Large in area providing more fl exibility.
• Ample car parking space
• Proximity to the TT Course and major routes on the Island
• A prominent location close to Douglas town centre
• Convenience to the Sea Terminal, Nobles hospital and other amenities
• As the property is already built, it requires internal modification only
• Room for possible expansion in the future

Joey Dunlop Foundation - Meeting the Needs of Disabled People

The main aim of the Foundation has always been to create self-catering apartments that will open up the Isle of Man to visitors with disability, including accessible bedrooms toilets and showers and other specialist needs. It is intended that at least one apartment will have specialist overhead hoist and height adjustable bed facilities and as appropriate, air mattresses. All apartments will include wet room facilities with level access. When it is constructed the facility will be available all year round for all disabled visitors needing specialist facilities while visiting the Island.
