Roussillon, one of the most beautiful villages in France, is 45 minutes from Avignon, 90 minutes from Marseille, Aix-en-Provence and Arles, two hours from the Mediterranean Sea. The village of 1,500 that Samuel Beckett called home in ‘42-’44, sits atop the many-hued outcrop that gives Roussillon its name. Celto-Ligurians were here before the Romans founded Apta Julia in -54 as near-by Gordes attests. Sit at a cafe terrase and contemplate the view of the Mt. Ventoux (1,909 m.).

Local fresh produce, olives, truffles, wines will captivate your senses at an outdoor market. Far from the madding crowd, on the Plateau d’Albion at 1,000m. with a 360o panorama, star-gaze through telescopes at SIRENE Observatory and marvel at the fields of lavender. Gardens and perched villages will entice you to explore the hinterland. In the summer, the region offers many musical and theatrical festivals .
